![]() If they have power they will reset after a time. On the trap side having some powered spring and blade traps would be nice. Just like in real life the crossbow would be meant to replace it as it packs the force to penetrate heavy armor. It would be less powerful of course and not be as good against heavier armored targets. ![]() That could be Tier 1 item and push crossbow back from tier 3 to tier 4 or 5. ![]() Honestly I never really understood way there was no Bow in the game. But before that most people simply "exploit" and wall off the enemy to starve or leave on their own if they can't kill them. Also it's only really powerful if you wall off an area and use it as shooting gallery to pick off enemies at range, because without someone playing tank the crossbowman is killed quite easily. But you have to spend metal to make ammo which can get costly. It's pretty much first and only range weapon until late game. They cost a lot of metal to make so it's a tradeoff between equipping your guys with armor or building a couple one strike traps.Īs for the crossbow I don't really see it as anything other than a weapon that is needlessly put off for a long time because it’s range. Honestly I don't see a problem with putting spike trap and blade trap in tier 1 & 2. Those can be put in early to make early tinkering worthwhile. That is unless non-trap researchable items are added to the game-production aid items. Then we'd be having a conversation about how it takes 5 gnomes tinkering for 6 seasons just to come up with the crossbow instead of the utility of the gears and hand cranks in a fraction of that time. Within the current game restraints that would probably have to be making the first item researched take an obscene amout of research time. Originally posted by Seoc:Then, again assuming traps are geared for mid-to-late game, the game somehow needs to delay the player in even starting down the tech tree. I know I haven't played in a while but I recall seeing the tinkering patch get added last time I played, which I think was a year ago and kinda suprise nothing else was added. The items need to be re-arranged so that something useful is at every tier, and more things should be added. But that's to win the game, not just get some item you can use in standard play. The closest thing I can think of to having something spread across the tech tree that can't be used until all the parts are gathered is Space Victory in Civ. It's only once you get all the parts can you get any sort of function out of them at all. The windmill trap usings like 5+ different parts which are all useless on their own. My point is much of what unlocks on the way up you can't use until you have unlocked most of the tree. It's either a new building, unit, or ability that unlocks and gives you additional options. In Civ, and many other games, every spot on the tree gives you something you can use. And even using other games like Civ only proves my point. I'm not asking for windmill powered crusher in first year. I actually think a powered spinning blade trap would be less OP than the wall crush or pit drop traps I’ve seen on youtube. And honestly I’m surprised they haven’t done something like that by now. ![]() It would be nice if you could use them to re-arm the spike and blade traps so your gnomes didn’t have to go in to reset them. I mean seriously besides walls and hatches what can you power with those things? But all those axles and such seem completely useless so it’s a wonder they are unlocked so early. I’m going off the wiki on progression because I’m not sure what “set” I’m on I just recall the first 1-2 sucking, then I got all the stuff I was hoping for with traps and crossbows, now working towards the wall and pit traps I’ve seen done. After that it seems to be another two tiers before you get someone that is actually useful in the form of retractable walls and now all those axles actually server a purpose. Then you finally get some useful items with crossbow, spike trap, and blade trap. Next comes the hand crank which with nothing to power is pointless. First it seems to unlock gears and springs which are useless on their own. Am I missing something because it seems like a lot of nothing early on.
